The Pit Crew, also known as the Scruff Pit Crew, are a group of muscular men who appear on the seasons of RuPaul's Drag Race. The Pit Crew is typically dressed only in their underwear, assisting RuPaul and contestants in the challenges on the show. The Pit Crew usually have no speaking part and typically do not speak on the show, they mainly appear as "Eye Candy" for viewers. Occasionally they appear in RuPaul's music videos or promos for the show.


Originally the Pit Crew began as being two African-American men, but has changed and expanded throughout the seasons to included more members of different ethnicities.

Season 1

The Pit Crew first appeared on Season 1 of the show, as a group of muscular black men who would help the contestants in challenges. They were first utilized in the show's very first mini-challenge where they dumped buckets of water on contestants for a car wash themed photo shoot. Two of the men also appeared in the music video for RuPaul's song "Cover Girl (Put The Bass In Your Walk)".

Season 2

Season 2 brought a completely new pit crew including body builder and model Max "The Body" Philisaire, and model Emmanuel Palmer. The two men first appeared on Episode 1, where they posed with contestats next to a cannon for a "Gone with the Wind" themed photo shoot.

Season 3

In Season 3 the Pit Crew received a complete overhaul and two new members; model Jason Carter and latino gogo dancer Shawn Morales. Shawn became the first non-African-American man to join the pit crew. The two first appeared on the Season 3 casting special during a segment featuring auditions for the "new Pit Crew", where different types of men were shown dancing and taking off their clothes auditioning for a spot. Shawn and Jason became the two men who were chosen to become the new Pit Crew. The two continued where the last Pit Crew left off, assisting RuPaul and contestants in the show's challenges. The two would also go to appear in RuPaul's Music Video for the song "Champion", and would remain with the show up to the current season, also appearing in RuPaul's All Stars Drag Race.

Season 4 and 5

Pit crew sailors

In Seasons 4 and 5, the Pit Crew would occasionally be temporarily expanded to included several men for certain challenges. In Episode 6, The Pit Crew included several men dressed as scantily clad sailors holding "wave" cut-outs and dancing in the background during the main challenge (Shawn and Jason being among those men).

In Season 5, Episode 8, the pit crew temporarily expanded to include no only Shawn and Jason but several male models in a version of "Memory Game" where the men would pull their pants down and the queens had to pair two models among a group of 22 with the same underwear.

Season 6


For Season 6, the "Pit Crew" is renamed the "Scruff Pit Crew" in a sponsorship deal with the smart phone dating app "Scruff". The group also expanded to include two new members, Miles Davis Moody and Simon Sherry-Wood, who would join Shawn and Jason. The four men would either all appear on the same episode or would take turns and appear two at a time on certain episodes depending on the challenges.

Season 7 and 8

For Season 7, the Pit Crew returned to its original name and featured the return of Jason and Miles, along with a brand new Pit Crew member, Bryce Eilenburg, who replaced Shawn and Simon. In Season 8 features the same Pit Crew as Season 7.

Current Members

Jason Carter (Season 3 - 9)
Jason is a male model, internet show host and current Pit Crew member from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Jason first appeared on Season 3 of the show and is the longest remaining Pit Crew member, appearing on the show for over 5 seasons. Jason has an older brother who is in the military. Currently he is dating a volunteer firefighter, also named Jason, and has been seeing him for over four years.

Miles Davis Moody

(Season 6 - 9)
Miles is a male model of Russian decent, who first appeared as a temporary honorary Pit Crew member on the show in Season 5, Episode 8, where he was among 22 male models who pulled their pants down during a mini-challenge. Miles became a permanent and official Pit Crew member on Season 6, where the Pit Crew was renamed the "Scruff Pit Crew". Miles appears as a singer on select songs on the "Rupaul Presents: CoverGurlz" and "Rupaul Presents: CoverGurlz2" compilation albums.

Bryce Eilenberg

(Season 7- 9)
Bryce is an Aerospace engineer and a graduate of the University of California Los Angeles, originally from Dana Point California. Bryce is the newest member of the Pit Crew making his first appearance during (Season 7), and is the first ginger-haired man to join, as well as the first heterosexual member since Season 2.

Kenyon Glover (Season 1)
Kenyon is a male model, actor, and original Pit Crew member from Season 1. He appears in the music video for Rupaul's song "Covergirl (Put The Bass in Your Walk)".

Keon Hunt

Kenyon is a male model, actor, and original Pit Crew member from Season 1.

Emanuel Palmer

(Season 2)
Emanuel is a male model who appeared only on Season 2.

Max "The Body" Philisaire

(Season 2)
Max is a male model, body builder, and personal trainer who appeared only on Season 2.

Shawn Morales

(Season 3 to 6)
Shawn Richard Morales was born on July 21, 1978. Shawn is a gogo dancer, event planner and male model from Walnut, California who appeared in the Pit Crew for 4 seasons. Shawn is of Puerto Rican, German, and Cherokee heritage. He first appeared on Season 3 on RuPaul's Drag Race and was the first non-African-American man to join the pit crew. Before RuPaul's Drag Race, Shawn appeared on the MTV dating show "Dismissed" in 2001, where he went on a date with two men and had to choose between the two. Shawn was a popular Pit Crew member and a fan favorite on the show before his last appearance on Season 6.

Simon Sherry-Wood

(Season 6)
Simon is an Irish male model from Dublin Ireland. Simon was a cast member of the "The Real World: Paris". Simon joined the Pit Crew on Season 6 where it was renamed the "Scruff Pit Crew". Simon did not return for Season 7.

Honorary Pit Crew Members

Occasionally on some seasons, the Pit Crew will be temporary expanded to feature honorary members who only appear for one Episode to assist in the mini or main challenge of the day. The following are some notable Honorary Pit Crew Members:

  • Brent Corrigan - A former gay adult film actor and male model for Christian Andrew underwear. Brent appeared on Season 5, Episode 8 "Scent of a Drag Queen".
  • Ronnie Kroell - A male model and actor originally from Chicago, IL. Ronnie appeared as a contestant on Season 1 of the Bravo reality TV series "Make Me a Supermodel" where he was a Runner-Up. He also posed full frontal in Playgirl magazine where he was a featured on the cover and as a centerfold. Ronnie appeared on Season 5, Episode 8 "Scent of a Drag Queen".
  • Eric East - A male model and gay adult film actor of Chinese decent. Eric appeared on Season 6.
  • Jacob Hoxsey - Male model appeared in Season 7 during the "Monster in your pants" challenge of episode 6 "Ru Hollywood Stories"

In 2014 a compilation album titled RuPaul Presents: The CoverGurlz was released on iTunes and The album featured covers of RuPaul's songs by Season 6 contestants and by two members of the Pit Crew. One of the tracks, an outtake from the album Champion entitled "Let's Turn the Night", was reproduced with new vocals from Jason Carter and Miles Davis Moody of the RuPaul's Drag Race pit crew.

World of Wonder also produced a music video for the pit crew's song "Let's Turn the Night", which also promoted RuPaul's, then, recently released fragrance Glamazon, released as part of a limited edition make-up line with Colorevolution Cosmetics.
